Ceramatec and its commercial partner, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (APCI) are the world leaders for electrically-driven Solid Electrolyte Oxygen Separation (SEOS) technology and pressure-driven Ion Transport Membrane (ITM) Oxygen technology oxygen generators.

The electrically-driven SEOS device produces high purity oxygen (>99.99%) from unfiltered air and uses a fan or low pressure pump to supply air to the device. The overall simplicity of the device combined with its steady performance results in a highly reliable oxygen separator. The SEOS device can also electrochemically compress the product oxygen as it separates it from air and thereby eliminate the need for a costly and dangerous mechanical oxygen compressor. Point-of-use SEOS oxygen generators produce high-purity medical-grade oxygen. They are very quiet, efficient, and reliable. Numerous membrane stacks have operated continuously for over 24,000-hours (-33 months), and a fully-integrated breadboard prototype device has been operated for over 10,000 hours. These units have exhibited stable performance, and are expected to perform well for many years.

The pressure-driven ITM oxygen device uses a pressurized (100 to 300 psig) air feed to produce a low-pressure, high purity (>99.5%) oxygen stream. This technology is designed for large-scale (tons per day) production of oxygen with significant cost benefits over competing oxygen generation techniques. Technology demonstrations at oxygen generation rates of 0.1 ton per day have been successful.
