Microlin Technologies Overview

A spin off from Ceramatec was formed in 2000 to commercialize a technology for controlled delivery of drugs, fragrances and other small volumes of liquid. This company is called Microlin.

The company has developed several enabling technologies including a micro gas-generating cell that can be utilized in the controlled release of precise amounts of fluids over an extended period of time. This technology is currently being developed for numerous applications in medical devices, veterinary medicine, industrial and consumer products.

Microlin has developed six other technology platforms. Contact us to learn more.
More than simply looking for applications of existing technologies, Microlin’s primary goal is to provide custom solutions to the challenges facing our customers.

Microlin has developed a gas-generating cell that produces a consistent, linear rate of gas production. It is self-powered, disposable (environmentally safe product) and compact in size. The current cell is .45 inches in diameter and .21 inches tall, has a gas capacity of 100 cc of hydrogen and can be run between 2cc per day and .05 cc per day. Other sizes can be made to vary the total gas capacity and rate capability. The gas generation rate is controlled by applying a resistance between the copper top and metal body of the cell. Variable resistors or switches can be used to change the flow rate of the cell.

Applying the Gas Generating Cell

Operating principle - Gas is generated and captured on the "gas side" of the device, which pushes on the plunger to displace the fluid through the orifice. Gas generation is linear, self-powered, disposable and adjustable. Shown here are a schematic of a possible product design, and a graph of typical device performance.

Ceramatec has an affiliated company called Microlin Technologies which is a research and development company focused on fluid delivery systems.

The company has developed several broadly enabling technologies including a Micro Pump that can be utilized in the controlled release of precise amounts of fluids over an extended period of time.

The operating principal is based on pressure generated by the Micro Pump, which pushes on the separator to displace the fluid through the orifice. The pump is self powered, disposable, and easily adjustable by changing the resistor value used.

This technology is currently being developed for numerous applications in medical devices, veterinary medicine, industrial and consumer products. In addition to the Micro Pump, Microlin has developed pressure and thermally driven devices and has several other fluid delivery technologies.
